چکیده
Abstract. The relative role of external forcing and intrinsic variability is a key question climate in general our planet's paleoclimatic past particular. Over the last 100 years since Milankovic's contributions, importance orbital has been established for period covering 2.6 Myr Quaternary glaciation cycles that took place during time. A convincing case also made several internal mechanisms are active on timescales both shorter longer than ones. Such clearly have causal Dansgaard–Oeschger Heinrich events, as well mid-Pleistocene transition. We introduce herein unified framework understanding forcing's effects system's from thousands to millions years. This relies fairly recent theory non-autonomous random dynamical systems, it so far successfully applied sciences problems like El Niño–Southern Oscillation, oceans' wind-driven circulation, other interannual interdecadal timescales. Finally, we provide further examples applications present preliminary results interest transition

Chronology of Quaternary glaciations in East Africa
A new glacial chronology for equatorial East Africa is developed using in situ cosmogenic 36Cl measured in 122 boulders from moraines on Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro. The oldest deposits sampled on Kilimanjaro yield a limiting 36Cl age of s 360 calendar kyr (all 36Cl ages are in calendar years, cal. kyr or cal. yr). On Mount Kenya, the oldest moraines give ages of 355^420 kyr (Liki I) and 255^28...
متن کاملPast Environmental Changes: Characteristic Features of Quaternary Climate Variations
Climate varies, both temporally and spatially, and the focus of the body of palaeoclimatic research has been to characterize and explain this variation. What has emerged is a view of climate as a multi-component system that varies across a range of temporal and spatial scales. Imbedded in these variations are some characteristic features such as trends, abrupt changes, periodicities, and the fo...
متن کاملInsolation driven variations of Mercury’s lithospheric strength
[1] Mercury’s coupled 3:2 spin‐orbit resonance in conjunction with its relatively high eccentricity of ∼0.2 and near‐zero obliquity results in both a latitudinal and longitudinal variation in annual average solar insolation and thus equatorial hot and cold regions. This results in an asymmetric temperature distribution in the lithosphere and a long wavelength lateral variation in lithosphere st...
متن کاملClimate variations of Central Asia on orbital to millennial timescales
The extent to which climate variability in Central Asia is causally linked to large-scale changes in the Asian monsoon on varying timescales remains a longstanding question. Here we present precisely dated high-resolution speleothem oxygen-carbon isotope and trace element records of Central Asia's hydroclimate variability from Tonnel'naya cave, Uzbekistan, and Kesang cave, western China. On orb...
متن کاملThe response of glaciers to intrinsic climate variability: observations and models of late Holocene variations in the Pacific Northwest
Discriminating between glacier variations due to natural climate variability and those due to true climate change is crucial for the interpretation and attribution of past glacier changes, and for expectations of future changes. We explore this issue for the well-documented glaciers of Mount Baker in the Cascades Mountains of Washington State, USA, using glacier histories, glacier modeling, wea...
